Hullo everyone!

Thanks for being patient with this roundup for the first Animania Festival Brisbane for the year! Several of the Animania Team that went to Brisbane have been down with the winter bugs that plague people this time of year and so it’s taken a little longer to compile all the info than expected. Me? Well I’ve finally recovered from the evil holds of Glandular Fever but I’m all better now! Yay soon I can kiss again! ;-P

So our third "mini"-event in Brisbane on the 10th has taken us about half-way through our Animania Festival year!! As always, many thanks to everyone who came and showed us the great hospitality that can only be expected from the Sunshine State!

We kicked off at about 9:30am (the Team was up at 3am! orz T_T) with pre-reg moving as fast as the Holiday Inn’s elevators would allow. Despite being limited to only a few lifts, things went relatively smoothly. As always, people headed straight to the Stallholders Room vying to be the first to get their hands on the latest DVDs or cute-as plushies and accessories. We were also happy to have the Toowoomba Anime Society and Black Dragonfly Samurai Martial Arts featuring in this area and doing their bit to promote both popular and traditional aspects of Japanese culture.

Our staple comps: Karaoke, Games and Doodling, all had its fair share of entries and interest. People battled it out on Mario Kart while budding artists (or our future manga creators?) showed their intense concentration in the Doodling area.
Comp winners are listed below:

Competition Winners

Games
Tekken 5 - Andy Tran
Super Mario Smash Brothers - Shane Fletcher

Art
Themed Winner - Monique Colbeck
Themed Runner Up - Jazzie I.
General Winner - Arielle Bangalan
General Runner Up - Jeff Patterson

Karaoke
1st place - Anthony with his rendition of Melodies of Life.

Then there was the Main Stage featured all the Animania Festival staples including screenings and Animania Olympia (or as I like to call it, our slimiest game show ever XD). We were excited to host several demos by the Black Dragonfly Samurai Martial Arts group who showed us that the way of the Samurai was definitely alive in Brissy.

And of course, we can never forget Cosplay. We saw some really great costumes enter into our traditional Animania Festival’s Cosplay Competition!! Winners details are as follows:

BrisVegas offered up two World Cosplay Summit Preliminary Pre-selection entries: the ‘Another World Breathing’ team cosplayed Gundam Seed/Destiny characters Lacus Clyne and Cagalli Yula Athha, while ‘The Mighty Noob Patrol’ team cosplayed Fate/Stay Night characters Shiro and Saber. Congratulations to Brisbanes’s first rep into the finals – Another World Breathing!

More information about these winning teams will can be found HERE. This brings us to only one pre-selection event! Make sure to be at the Main Stage on Saturday August 23rd – the first day of what will be a kick-ass Animania Weekend – to see the last of the Pre-Selections, followed by the final Preliminary Comp on the Sunday August 24th! Who will Australia send as their first reps to compete in the World Cosplay Summit in Japan?? I can’t wait to find out!

And so we’re nearly full circle! Thank you again to everyone who came and showed us their anime spirit!

Next up is the big one we’ve been waiting for – the Animania Festival Weekend! We’re currently working hard to bring the site for this Festival up, so keep your eyes peeled for updates!

In the meantime, take it easy and get lots of Vitamin C in! This winter’s looking like a chilly one >.<;;.

Soothers are my best friend,
