Karaoke

What would a Festival that celebrates Japanese popular culture be without a room that's dedicated purely to Karaoke??

Of course, in 2008, we'll be bringing back this favourite feature of the Animania Festival!! Visitors will be able to kick back, relax and belt out their favourite anime or J-pop tunes. Don't forget to also cheer on your fellow singers and support them as they sing their hearts out!

What is Karaoke?

Karaoke (from kara, "empty", and ?kesutora, "orchestra") is a popular Japanese past-time of singing a favourite song with support of a pre-recorded backing track (with or without the lead vocals) complete with a microphone and sound system to really amplify that personal sound!

In this truly fun and liberating form of entertainment, anyone can sing those songs they've always loved or dreamed of performing - indeed, it's when that performer in you can get out and shine!

During Karaoke sessions, the backing track typically has the voice of the original singer removed (or reduced in volume) with lyrics displayed on the screen. An indicator in the form of a bouncing ball or flowing coloured text is often added with the lyrics to guide the singer in their performance.

KARAOKE COMPETITION

Just as no Japanese pop culture festival could be complete without a space dedicated just to Karaoke, no DECENT Festival of this kind would be without a Karaoke Competition! And that's right, Animania Festival wants to see you bring out the flair and charisma in your most favourite anime/j-pop songs!
