WCS Sydney March Preliminary Finalist Profiles

Sydney's first Preselection Round saw some great entries.

The first place Preselection Finalists from this Festival were Gabriella and Katherine as "The Love and Peace Movement" duo team with a D.Gray-man cosplay.

Second place went to Jasmine and Liam from the duo team, "Fire Dragoons", with a cosplay from the anime Black Blood Brothers.

The Love and Peace Movement:

Is this your first Cosplay?
I've only been cosplaying since 2006, so this still means that I am fairly new to cosplaying and construction. I have made a few costumes, some including characters such as: Yuna from Final Fantasy X, Riku from Kingdom Hearts 1, Roxas from Kingdom Hearts 2, Light Yagami from Death Note, Riku from Kingdom Hearts 2, etc... I've won the following awards: Best Group Supanova Sunday 2006, Best Skit Animania Saturday 2006, Best Skit and Group Mini Animania 2007, Best Skit Manifest Sunday 2007, Best Skit Animania Sunday 2007 and Best Group Supanova Sunday 2007.

What got you into cosplay?
Good question! XD Basically one year, after being to my first convention, I was like, hey, that looks like fun! Why not give it a go? So I did, and I made some amazing friends, went through some drama, and came out loving it. I decided to keep cosplaying, met Tsubaki (who got me even MORE into cosplay) and here I am today.

Is this your first Cosplay?
I've been cosplaying since 2002 & have made about 50 different costumes, some including characters such as: Catbus from 'My Neighbor Totoro', 'Sora' from 'Kingdom Hearts I & II', Kinomoto Sakura from 'Card Captor Sakura', Tidus from 'Final Fantasy X', Mr Satan from 'Dragon Ball Z' & many more. I've won about 13 awards for both construction & performance at conventions through 2004-2007 such as: Sydney Supanova, Sydney Animania, Melbourne Manifest, Adelaide AVCon & Perth Wai-Con.

What got you into cosplay?
I got into cosplay from my own need to express my appreciation for characters enjoying the series & costumes. When I found out it was a popular hobby for other people as well it only encouraged me more, as I've made many friends through this common interest & have been doing it for almost as long as I became deeply interested in Japanese animations & games. I still do cosplay to show my appreciation for characters, series & of course their outfits.

Brisbane Supanova '06 Izumi Curtis from FullMetal Alcehmist, Sydney Supanova '06 Winry Rockbell from Fullmetal Alchemist, Brisbane Supanova '07 Gunner Yuna from Final Fantasy X2, Brisbane Animania '07 Summoner Yuna from Final Fantasy X won Best Skit, Sydney Supanova '07 Songstress Yuna from Final Fantasy X-2 won 2nd Best Group, Sydney Supanova '07 Rima Tohya from Vampire Knight didn't compete.

What got you into cosplay?
The atmosphere, and my crazy anime friends. It's just a really great scene, mostly because everyone's so happy and positive.
