Thank you also to all of this year's stallholders, artists and community groups.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly as well, a great big shout-out to the 2009 Volunteers - without these guys, the Festival would have been almost impossible.
A Roundup of the entire massive event and photos will be posted up inthe upcoming weeks, so keep an eye out for these. In the meantimethough, check out the photo thread of the forum to see the event captured by heaps of visitors.
Finally, a big congratulations to Go Wu Go! for winning a place in the World Cosplay Summit for 2010!
Another great Animania Festival Weekend over, but we still have two more events this year - Animania Festival Brisbane and the first ever, Animania Festival Adelaide. These two events will also be the reboot of the World Cosplay Summit Preliminary Preselections - so soon, but we are excited to see what Brissy and Adelaide may bring to the table!
Reeling, recovering and can't wait for more,
Amanda

From whence did this mysterious person appear...?
Some say, his hands are really pixels that form only a nubby stump with a thumb.
And that when he jumps for joy, coins magically appear in the air with a glorious and resounding "ding!".
All we know, is that he's called the Mario Kart STIG, and he'll be making his first ever appearance @ Animania Festival Weekend 2009!
The Games Zone is proud to feature a truly "Retro Corner" this year, featuring the SNES and all-day Super Mario Kart. And what would this be if there were not a competition too?
The Mario Kart Stig will show us his leet awesomeness by setting a time to beat on a different track for each day of the Festival. We charge you, oh wonderous Animania Festival visitor, with the challenge of knocking this time off its pedestal and replacing it with your own awesome time! Where will you sit in the Animania Festival's Super Mario Kart Power Lap Competition? The (non-Stig) person with the best time will win title of Animania Festival Power Lap Winnar.
At the end of the competition period (3PM), Mario Kart Stig will reappear from the void that houses all true Stigs and aim to knock the best time set by a visitor (if they beat the Stig), or set a new lap record (if noone had managed to beat him). Read up on the rules to find out more about this competition.
The Games Zone will also feature the ever-popular Super Smash Bros Brawl Competition on the Nintendo Wii and also a brand new Street Fighter 4 Competition on the PS3. Registration will be taken on the day, so
From retro to latest state-of-the-art, come watch the excitement unfold in the Games Zone this weekend and maybe set a few records yourself!

Hey there!
Can you believe it? Only 8 days until the big weekend at the Australian Technology Park. I can hardly wait to see all the awesome stuff that's planned (or as much of it as I can from my post).
Speaking of watching things, Animania Festival's very own high speed short video editing competition -SpeedAMV- is currently taking votes for the people's choice award! To vote on a winner all you need to do is go to the SpeedAMV board watch the videos and give them a rating out of 5 (you'll need to sign up to the forums to vote). Make sure you vote soon though; voting closes on the 31st of September! There's some nice entries this year so be sure to check them out.
All entries will be screened during the festival weekend too, so you can see them up on the big screen!
See you Space Cowboys and Cowgirls!

UTS: Sydney International Animation
Festival
Along with being the hub of Sydney's
creative industries, the University of Technology, Sydney will be the epicentre
of all things animated this September, with the inaugural UTS: Sydney
International Animation Festival.
Screening over the weekend of 5th
and 6th of September, the UTS: SIAF will bring to Sydney the latest
digital and traditional animation from across the globe.
With the program finalised, the UTS: Sydney
International Animation Festival's co-director has given you five great reasons
to attend:
- The Spine by
Oscar-winner Chris Landreth (Canada), where the brittle, complex
collection of personalities within a counselling group populate a ‘family'
which critiques the lop-sided gifts and sacrifices of an unusual couple. (Winner: "Best Of Fest" Melbourne International
Animation Festival) This is an
exclusive chance for Sydney audiences to see this film.
- I Am So Proud Of You, by Don Hertzfeldt (USA): Bill's life and family history are
filled with bad luck, illness and tragedy. And humour! The latest animated
wonder from the frenetic pen of one of the animation world's stars. (Winner: "Audience Award - Best In
Program" Melbourne International Animation Festival)
- Life Without Gabriel Ferri by Estonian master Priit Parn: experience a dramatic story
about love, locked doors, a faceless thief, a wounded stork, a lost laptop
and the O'Key sisters who turn out to be virtual prostitutes. The pinpoint
of light in the distance may just prove to be that of an approaching happy
ending. (Exclusive to UTS: SIAF 09)
- Chainsaw, by Dennis Tupicoff (Australia). Frank and Ava Gardener "star"
in a chainsaw safety film, and love the rodeo. But now, ten years later...
Romance is like a chainsaw: a very dangerous beast indeed. (Grand Prix-Oberhausen International
Short Film Festival 2008; Grand Prix and Critics Prize-Huesca
International Film Festival 2008; Nelvana Grand Prize and Best Narrative
Short -Ottawa International Animation festival; Finalist AFI and Dendy
Awards)
- Hear visiting guest Claire Kitson, former Commissioning Editor of Animation for the UK's Channel 4, as
she presents some British gems and signs her latest book, British Animation: The Channel 4 Factor.
If that's not enough, visit www.siaf.uts.edu.au to see the full
program.

That's right lads and ladies, Animania Festival Weekend is not too far off now - and we have lots in store for you!
The
Festival Weekend is of course Animania's largest event and the chance
to bring everyone together to celebrate everything to do with Japanese
popular culture in Australia.
Animania die-hards can expect the
classic events such as karaoke, screenings, art workshops and video
games, and there'll be lots of new surprises too, both big and small.
All we can say right now is to expect more competitions, more stage
shows and more artistic touches around the place!
A major highlight of course will be the Animania Festival Cosplay Competition and
the 2009/2010 World Cosplay Summit
Australian Preliminary. We expect to see some brilliant costumes from
all the Preselection finalist duos. Cosplay fans can also expect a full
report from the first WCS Australian Preliminary champs, Catty &
Tsubaki, on their adventures in Japan and of course, their costumes.
Find out more about What's On at Animania Festival Weekend in the new sub-site.
Also don't forget that Pre-Registration for the Animania Festival Weekend
will still be open for a limited only. Save money and avoid
(potentially waiting for hours) in the queue by pre-registering today!
Stage 1 Pre-Registration will be closing at the end of this week.
Updates
will be coming in through almost every other day now, so keep posted to
