Mini-Games & Dance

Headlines

Follow Animania

There will be a range of interactive mini-games and open dance lessons held throughout the Animania Festival Weekend.

The Mini-Games and Dance area will host a range of fun mini-games ranging from classic favourites to the slightly quirky including Giant Twister, the Chocobo game, Cosplay Chess, and more!

There will also be range of open dance lessons where Animania Staff and special guest experts will take anyone and everyone through a range of moves from Haruhi, Lucky Star to hip-hop, funk and RnB.

Currently planned mini-games and dance lessons are listed below, though these may be subject to change so please check closer to date for the final list and timings.

Chocobo Challenge

How many feathers can you steal from the chocobo... especially when you can't see and it keeps running away from you?!

In this mini-game (and a reverse of the original Chocobo Game), one team is made up of a blindfolded chocobo and a guide, and on the other team is a blindfolded feather-thief and a guide. The chocobo guide must direct the chocobo away from the feather-thief, while the feather-thief's guide must direct them towards the chocobo. The aim is to steal as many feathers from the chocobo as possible!

Times and number of feathers will be recorded - the team with the most feathers stolen in the shortest amount of time while the game is played will win a small prize.

Cosplay Chess & Shogi

Cosplay Chess (classic) and Cosplay Shogi returns this year!

Classic Chess (Saturday only): A lively game of chess will feature on Animania's giant chessboard, but instead of regular chess pieces we'll use Cosplayers! Come join in or watch the drama unfold as cosplayers are strategically moved about by the chess masters, and who knows, you may see a Sephiroth Queen slay down a Pikachu Pawn.

Shogi (Sunday only): While Cosplay Chess is the most well-known Cosplay game played around the world, chess itself of course isn't a truly Japanese game. So in 2009, Animania Festival introduced Cosplay Shogi, also known Japanese Chess! Shogi isn't very different from traditional Chess at all, and in fact, most of the pieces move exactly the same way. There are kings, pawns, knights, rooks and bishops, but there are also gold and silver generals and lances! A fun twist too is that when one of your pieces dies (is taken), it can be brought back to life immediately to play for the other team! So come watch this Japanese version of chess play out by the shogi-masters, and maybe you'll see a Misato Katsuragi Queen slay down a Cloud Knight and have him serve under their command!

Cosplay is a must for visitors wishing to participate in these games. Registration will be available on the day at the Mini-Games and Dance - first in, best dressed, so get in early!

Cosplay Mini-Games

There will be a range of mini-games on specifically for cosplayers. Register to participate in these mini-games at the CosplayHQ info desk on the day - it's first in, best dressed, so get your friends together and get in early! Cosplay is a must for visitors wishing to participate in these mini-games.

Check the Festival Schedule closer to date to find out when these games will be on.

Balloon Bash

This game will be a three-legged race with a twist - a balloon twist! Cosplayers will be paired into teams of two and tied up like in a three-legged race. Each team will have balloons strapped to their ankles and must stomp out the other team's balloons before the time is up! The team with the most balloons remaining is the winner.

Battleships

Calling cosplayers to battle stations! This game will see two Cosplay teams try and sink each others "battleship".

Each team will have three cosplayers assigned to a "battleship" and one "shooter". The "battleships" must move together within the game area while the "shooters" throws plastic balls at the battleships to "sink" them. Each time a cosplayer is hit with a ball, that cosplayer must abandon team to carry on without them. The battleship is sunk when all cosplayers have been hit (and no one left to carry the battleship).

The game ends when the first "battleships" has been sunk or when time runs out. Teams members are swapped around for a second and third bout. The team that sinks the most battleships (best of three) wins.

More games coming soon...
