Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Cosplay is short for 'Costume Play', the act of dressing up as a character from a work of fiction. Typically characters people cosplay as are from Japanese anime, manga or more recently, Japanese video games and internet phenomenoma.

Cosplay is a much loved activity worldwide, and features in many anime events across the globe. At Animania Festival cosplay is definitely a much loved event to our staff and visitors alike! A cosplayer will often dedicate a great deal of time and effort to creating the best possible costume as a homage to a favourite character, their characteristics and the medium from which they originate. Sometimes their costumes are so realistic that the individuals seem to almost become the characters themselves - bringing imagination to life!

The Animania Happy Brigade are a team of Festival Volunteers and Staff who are dedicated to helping spread happiness, joy and smiles around the Festival!
These cheerful girls and guys want to see you smile - and will not be afraid to give you candy to see that you do! Make sure you say 'hi!' when you see them at the Festival.

The Happy Brigade also serve as a point of contact during the festival. If you have any questions about the event, don't hesitate to ask them.

Security

Festivals are fun, but please remember to be sensible. If you need assistance for yourself or for a friend/family member/partner - don't be scared to ask Festival Staff. We won't judge you, we only want to help you and make sure you're safe. First Aid staff may also be called on hand to help.

Any lost property handed in during the festival will be taken to the Info Desk.
After the Festival, if you realise you've lost something please use the Contact page. - If we have it, we will return it to you.

In the extremely unlikely circumstance of an emergency that requires the Festival venue to be evacuated or cleared, it's imperative that you follow all instructions from emergency services, police, the fire brigade and Festival security.

Ticketing and Wristbands

A ticket allows you to enter and re-enter the venue for the entire duration of the Festival.
At the Registration Desk you will be given a wristband that acts as a pass, so please keep it on.

Yes you can, as long as you're still wearing the wristband issued to you by our friendly Registration Team; you may enter and leave as many times as you like.

That's a no-no. Your ticket and wristband are yours, and yours alone.

The Tickets page for the relevant event will have pricing and a link to the Tickets form. When you fill in the form you are given the choice between Credit Card (instant) or Postal Money Order (get it from any Post Office and Post it within a week). At this point you will also receive a receipt via email with full instructions, including where to send the Postal Money Order.

When your payment is received you will be emailed a PDF with your tickets. Print out the entire PDF (1 ticket per page) and bring it to the event for express entry.

If you are using hotmail, please check your spam/junk/trash folder or better yet use an email address that is not hotmail when registering instead.

Volunteering and Helping Out

Animania wouldn't be able to run smoothly without its many dedicated volunteers! At this stage we are only recruiting volunteers for the Animania Festival Weekend in Sydney (held in September).

That's very nice of you! If you have skills that may help and benefit the Festival, please feel free to contact the organisers via the contact page.
(You can also help Animania by telling people you know about the Festival!)
